The driver turned himself in at the Fairfield County jail on Sunday. He had already spent some time there in the past, most recently in 2017 when he served 30 days of the 1 year sentence for his last OVI/DUI.
The defense attorney made a case for bail modification, arguing that the driver had been behaving himself since the murder.
The judge denied the motion, and as far as I know, the driver remains in jail in lieu of the $250,000 bail.
We are a little relieved to learn that the driver who killed Shin has been in custody since Sunday, August 9, 2020, and will appear in front of a judge for a bail hearing on August 14, 2020. The prosecutor asked for the bail to be set at $250,000.
The driver faces 8 charges: 2 counts (?) of aggravated vehicular homicide, 3 count (?) of OVI, and 3 counts of various less serious traffic violations.
More details later.
The driver was charged for Aggravated Vehicular Homicide: 2903.06 (A)(1)(a), and 2903.06 (B)(2)(a), as well as for OVI: 4511.19(A)(1)(a), and 4511.19(G)(1)(d) on August 5, 2020, and was scheduled to appearance in front of Judge Jillian Boone, on August 10, 2020. The preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for August 19, 2020, at 3:00 pm.
The wheel of justice may turn slowly, but is beginning to grind surely.
