The plea and sentencing hearing took place this morning.
The prosecutor and the defendant had come to a plea agreement for 8.5 years for vehicular homicide of 2nd degree felony, and OVI of 4th degree felony, to begin serving in 30 days.
The judge had quite a few mouthfuls to say. The defendant was sentenced to 9 years and 8 months to 11 years and 8 months, with a minimum time of 7 years and 8 months, to begin serving today. The latter was particularly shocking, and clearly affected the defendant, as he was expecting to go home for 30 more days.
